Rainbow Riches Slingo - General Gameplay
Rainbow Riches Slingo gets its name from the cross fertilisation of the words Slots and Bingo, somehow intimating that there are elements of both in the game. And I guess this is kinda true insofar as the prizes you win are dictated by the Bonus Round you unlock. However, lets not kid ourselves, this is pretty much a game of online Bingo – as as such will be the online Slingo game I review on this site.
When you start the game you’ll be presented with a Bingo card taking up most of the screen and a container with 10 balls in it. Select how much you want to spend per game and press the green Spin button.
Each ball activates a reel under the bingo card that spins in numbers. If that number is on your bingo card then it lights up. Continue in the same way until all the balls have been used.
Along the way there are also four other symbols that can help or hinder you.
Running from left to right in the image above they are; Joker, Super Joker, Devil and the Free Spin symbol.
The Joker symbol allows you to select an unlit number in the clumn immediately above it. The Super Joker allows you to pick an unlit symbol anywhere on the card, whilst the Devil symbol simply blocks a number on the reel (so you get one less number spinning in on the reel when it lands). Finaly the Free Spin symbol gives you an extra ball back. Stunning eh…
On the left hand side of the bingo card are the bonus rounds that you can unlock when you reach a certain number of completed lines on the Bingo card. The more lines you complete, the better the bonus round.
However, there is what I consider to be a potential problem with this game for anyone who doesn’t even think they have an addictive personality. And that is the opportunity to “Play On” after your initial game has finished. This is to entice you to light up more lines and get a better bonus.
Which in theory is fine. Except that you have to pay for each additional spin. And the value of these spins increase the closer you get to lighting up all the numbers on the Bingo Card to get the Full House (which unlocks the most powerful Bonus Feature – the Pots Of Gold feature).
If you aren’t careful as a player, starting off a game of Rainbow Riches Slingo can begin by spending say £2, but can finish with you spending £130-140 or even more if you get into the habit of “I’ll-just-have-one-more-spin-itis”. So beware.
Rainbow Riches Slingo - Seven Bonus Rounds!
Yes, Rainbow Riches Slingo has seven different bonus rounds. If you’ve ever played a real Rainbow Riches slot before then you will recognise them. They unlock as you complete lines on the bingo card, with the first one being unlocked at 5 lit lines. Obviously the more lines lit, the better the bonus round.
If you light up 5 lines you can select theRainbow Riches Slingo Wishing Well bonus. You’re presented with 3 wells – and all you have to do is select one.the well you select will reveal a multiplier amount that is applied to your game stake.
The Rainbow Riches Slingo Cash Crop bonus is what you get is you light up six lines and select it. You’re taken to a new screen with rotating coins. Each coin has a multiplier value. Some are selected at random and again are applied to your play stake.
Next up is the Magic Toadstool bonus, which you can get if you light up 7 lines. You get to pick 3 toadstools – all of which have either a multiplier or a fairy under them. The fairy will reveal the toadstools around them which increases the number of toadstool selected.
8 lines give you the Magic Toadstool Red bonus. Identical to the above except that you get four picks instead of three. The fairy again destroys most of the toadstools – this round is probably the won that I had most success with in terms of mulitplier returns.
Up at the sharp end you can claim the Rainbow Riches Slingo Road To Riches bonus if you get 9 lines. Recognisable to anyone who’s played a real Rainbow Riches slot, the wheel spins and moves you along the road to riches until you find your final multiplier.
10 lines is actually really hard to get because when you only have one number left on the Bingo Board you’re more likely to get the Full House bonus instead. Anyway, 10 lines gives you the Road To Riches Red Bonus, which is the same as above except that the multiplier values are higher.
Finally the Full House gives you the Pots Of Gold feature. The screen shows a leprechaun surrounded by bronze, silver and gold pots. Each has a multiplier value. The pots spin and when they stop, the one under his feet is the multiplier value that you win.
So, Rainbow Riches Slingo. Not an online slot really, but it does have all the bonus rounds from a lot of the other Rainbow Riches games in the series.
It can be really easy to run up massive spin costs if you insist on chasing the features that are revealed higher up the ladder so be aware of that. But if I were you I’d probably just go an play a different Rainbow Riches online slot instead – probably Rainbow Riches Drops of Gold as I like that one the best out of all of them!
