8 Ball slots is another typical online slot machine that features three reels and one payline. And whilst there are lot of these types of machines available to play online, 8 Ball Slots seems to have even less going for it than usual. The fact that you can only play either one or two coins (instead of the usual three found on other games like this) limits the amount that you can bet per spin, which in turn reduces the amount that you can win.

Add to this that when we tested this game we never won any more than either of the lowest two wins available, and that there seemed to be a fundamental programming issue when calculating the win, and this machine really doesn’t have a lot going for it.

As is the case with this type of game you start by choosing how many coins you want to play, and how much value you want each coin to have. The coin values can be set at integers from 5p through to £5, so the maximum amount that you can bet is £10 a spin (if you are playing two coins).

Pressing the ‘spin’ button starts the machine and if you match three balls according to the winlines denoted above the screen you will win that amount x your wager. Or at least thats whats *supposed* to happen.

When we tested the machine we found that it didn’t matter if you played one or two coins, you would always get your win calculated as if you were playing one coin.

Have a look at the screenshot above. It shows that we are testing using the maximum bet available – two coins worth £5 each – so a total bet of £10. According to the paytable on the machine, we should be earning according to the numbers of the right hand side of the paytable.

The win that is showing is “three solid balls”. It should have won us 4x our stake – so £40. If you look you can see that we actually only won £20. The machine is calculating our win as if we are only playing one coin and applying our wager to the left hand column of the paytable.

For an online gaming machine this is pretty unexcusable, and is a basic programming error. Because of this, its impossible for us to recommend this game – how can we when the winnings don’t equal what the paytable says?
