On first firing up Silent Samurai, it looks like it will play just like any other online slot game of its type – 5 reels and 9 win lines stamp their mark on this being a mid range online slot aimed at the beginner/intermediate online gambler – but once you get into the game itself, it reveals itself to have a host of extra features within it that you would expect to only find on a typical 20 or 25 line slot game.

You start off as always by deciding how much you want to wager on each spin. As with all Playtech online slots this is easily done – at the bottom of the playing screen are two buttons that allow you to alter the number of lines that you can play each spin and also change the amount that you want to play on each line. These are totalled up to tell you exactly how much you are spending per spin, so you can always play within your limits.

I never play less than the amount of lines that are available, and also the option is there to play 1-9 lines, I cant see the point of it. As a long time online slots player it makes no sense to cut out win lines – just play the maximum number of winlines, and if budget is an issue, then just lower your line bet. There really is nothing more annoying than seeing those wins come spinning in on a line that you arent playing on – even moreso with Silent Samurai as there are a few features that you can win on as well.

Once you start playing the idea is to get matching symbols running from left to right across the reels on a win line. Depending on the type of symbol you match and the number of them, you will win a multiplier of your line bet, so the more you bet per line, the more you will (potentially!) win.

There is also a Golden Dragon reel symbol that acts as a Wild. These symbols acts as a substitute for all other symbols that can appear apart from the Geisha Girl Symbol and the Silent Samurai symbol.

These Wild Symbols help you generate larger line wins and can also grab you multiple line wins too.

The Geisha Girl symbol works on a Scatter Win basis. Unlike the other line wins where you have to match the symbols on a win line, Scatter Wins are paid out for getting the symbol anywhere on the reels. Getting 3 Geisha Girl symbols will win you 5x your line bet, 4 will get you 25x your line bet and if you manage to get 5 Scatter symbols then you will get a massive 100x your line bet.

 There is also one more symbol – the Silent Samurai. He only appears on Reels 1 and 5 and to be honest is incredibly hard (well, I spent over £10,000 from the balance) to get. If you do get him on both reels though you will initiate the Bonus Round. And its a very good bonus round too.

You are taken to a new screen where you are faced with 21 ninjas. Clicking on a ninja will fire a Shuriken at him, causing him to explode (which is rather dramatic but does mean that they don’t have to show bloody injuries I guess!) and reveal his prize.

The ninjas prize will either be a win multiplier, or a number. The numbers add up to the total number of Free Spins that you can get and the multipliers are also added up to give you your final Free Spin Multiplier bonus. In the free spins round you can get up to an 8x multiplier for each spin.

You keep clicking on the ninjas until you hit a “bad ninja”, which will stop your killing spree and start the free spins. There are also “magic ninjas” on the screen. Hitting these mean that three other random ninjas come to a fiery death and you get their rewards too.
