Once you have set your line bet then its time to start. As with all online slot games the idea is to match reel symbols on the reels from reel 1 through to reel 5. Depending on which symbols you match you will win between 3x -2500x your line bet. These payouts seem to have been condensed to allow more wins (some online slot games will pay out over 10000x your line bet for some 5 of a kind wins).

However, matching the symbols on the reels only makes up a small part of what Banana Monkey is all about. As you can see from the screen shot, this game is also packed with Wild Symbols. This is always a good thing, and when they are stacked (like they are in Banana Monkey) its even better. Stacked Wild symbols give the potential for enormous multiple line wins – they substitute for all the other normal reel symbols – helping you to generate plenty of wins.

Another reel symbol to look out for is the Monkey himself. If you manages to get him spinning in on reels 1,3 and 5 then you will trigger the Progressive Bonus round.

Unlike most bonus rounds which are down to chance, the bonus round in Banana Monkey is skill based. You’ll be taken to a new screen that has three banana trees. Using your left and right arrow buttons on your keyboard, simply move the monkey through the trees to collect all the bananas. There are 25 bananas to collect, and if you get them all then you will win a healthy 40x your line bet.

If you miss any bananas during the bonus round then these are added to a pot. These will be held there until you trigger the bonus round again. If you manage to collect all 25 bananas this time, then the bananas that you missed the previous time and that are stored in the separate pot are also added to your win, meaning more money. However, unless you have no motor skills at all (and if thats the case you wouldnt even have been able to turn your computer on, let alone play this game) the collecting of the bananas is ridiculously simple so you should be able to collect all the bananas each time. Still, having that form of progressive bonus is an interesting little innovation.

The other reel symbol to look out for is the bunch of bananas. This symbol doesn’t seem to appear very often, but when it does it helps to trigger the Free Spins round.

If you look closely at the screen shots you will see that under each reel is a basket. When the banana symbol appears, Banana Monkey will shake the symbol and up to 4 bananas will fall into the basket at the bottom of that reel. When the basket contains 4 bananas then the bonus round will start. What is good about this is that even if you lose the game down and then come back to it, the accumulated bananas will still be there, encouraging you to keep playing this machine.

Once you get the 4 bananas in a basket then you start the Free Spins. You get 8 Free Spins, and each will pay out at 3x your line bet. You cannot retrigger these Free Spins, but remember that you are building up the bananas in the baskets at the bottom of each reel – and filling up another basket will start the Free Spins again.

All in all, Banana Monkey is an interesting online slot game that has some genuinely innovative features, but probably isn’t for the casual player. This game needs time invested in it to get it to give up its secrets.
